Why Upgrade your Suspension? Why upgrade the suspension on a brand new 4WD? From the factory, most new 4WD vehicles are tuned for comfort during on road driving. Once weight is added, in the form of accessories and cargo, and road conditions deteriorate, performance and reliability of your 4WD suffers. Quality, application specific, aftermarket suspension is designed to increase load carrying capability and improve both vehicle handling and comfort across all terrains, whilst providing increased ground clearance to better tackle more challenging terrain. Unlike some other accessories, you’ll notice the benefits of a new suspension system every time you drive your vehicle.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASE! MARCH 2016

OLD MAN EMU SUSPENSION AND BULLBAR - NEW TOYOTA HILUX

Toyota Hilux OME Suspension 2016

Aftermarket 4WD suspension is extremely complex.

Determining the right solution for your vehicle and your requirements demands special attention to many factors. Unlike numerous after market suspension systems, which are only available in a single configuration targeting lift height, OME offers a range of tuned and matched integrated suspension systems to ensure the right suspension is available to suit how the vehicle is outfitted and the conditions it will encounter.

The OME Engineers initial evaluation of the new 2015 Hilux revealed a very firm, controlled ride when unladen in the OE trim. This provided the opportunity to explore tuning for comfort and control in various loading scenarios. OME’s newly developed range will provide a plush ride over both on and off road slow speed features but still provide vehicle stability when a high speed manoeuvre is required. In order to accommodate for vehicles with various loads OME has developed a larger spectrum of strut and spring combinations than the previous Hilux range to provide the best load carrying ride comfort combination possible.

Front Suspension

Springs
Four spring options were chosen to cater for No Bar, Bar, Bar/Winch and Bar/Winch/Accessories vehicle setups. With additional front accessories now available such as under body protection, recovery points, side rails, dual batteries etc a fourth coil option has been
added to cater for the additional load these accessories provide. As the spring design is the same as previous model Hilux, existing coil part numbers were able to be used noting some slight change in application. Factory geometry allowed for a 40mm lift and still maintain an adequate level of droop.

Struts
An extensive development and tuning project was undertaken to correctly match the ride quality to the spring rate and resulted in 2 front strut options depending on spring selection. Although valving is similar to the previous model Hilux, lengths have altered slightly and optimised for this model. The front strut also has an increased bottom bush size in line with the OE design.

Rear Suspension

Extensive development has gone into the new Hilux leaf spring design. A great emphasis was placed on ride comfort with and without a payload which has led to three types of load dependent leaf designs. The 2015 Hilux OME Rear Leaf Springs are unique in how the second stage leafs interacts with the primary leafs, this is a key factor in low-speed feature comfort.  SR5 models are now equipped with Halogen Headlamp Levelling sensors which are located on the rear leaf springs. To allow for the increase in lift a new bracket has been designed to correct the sensor parameters.

Shock Absorbers
Two new rear shock absorbers have been developed with particular attention  controlling the vehicle both with and without payloads. Numerous iterations of valving were tested in order to determine the best possible spring and shock absorber combination based on potential payload scenarios. As a result the best possible configuration of ride comfort and vehicle control was achieved.

Whether you’re travelling on harsh roads, using your vehicle for competition purposes or towing a camper trailer, the importance of a fully integrated 4×4 suspension system is paramount.Designed for superior performance across all terrain, an

Old Man Emu suspension upgrade by Baillies Off Road

will provide noticeable improvements to a vehicle’s performance, including load carrying capacity and control characteristics. Australia’s leading 4×4 suspension brand takes into account your individual requirements with specialist engineers spending hundreds of man hours testing and modifying various combinations in the demanding Australian Outback so you can find the most suitable solution for your needs. ARB and Old Man Emu’s commitment to providing the most comprehensive range on the market has resulted in an extensive selection of quality products. From OME shocks to OME suspension kits, all Old Man Emu products are backed by a minimum 3 years or 60,000km (whichever comes first) warranty and aftersales service.

Should your Old Man Emu 4WD suspension system include the fitment of Emu Dakar leaf springs, these leaf spring bushes require periodic lubrication to ensure longevity. OME greasable shackles and pins facilitate this task without the need to remove the shackles, thereby greatly reducing the time and effort involved. Unique, easy bolt together assembly – this eliminates out of angle ‘shackle pin to side plate’ problems commonly associated with press fit assemblies. Each pin has two grease outlet holes to guarantee maximum grease coverage between the shackle pin and the spring bush – increasing bush life and improving ride quality. Heat treated pins ensure long pin life under heavy loads and off road conditions Side plates are zinc plated for protection against corrosion

Suspension systems, especially when referring to 4WDs, are extremely complex. Determining the right solution for each 4WD requires special attention to many factors, with weight being the most critical. Old Man Emu 4x4 suspension by ARB approaches this in a unique way.
